Mr. Lawrence Addo, an alumnus of University of Ghana and Chief Executive Officer of Relish Company Limited has donated an amount of GH¢100,000.00 to the Students Financial Aid Office. This presentation marked his seventh donation to the University.

In his introductory remarks, Mr. Addo said his motive for making the donation, is to ensure that brilliant but needy students are not hindered from receiving the world-class training at the University of Ghana, his alma mater. Mr. Addo, who was accompanied by his friend, Mr. William Amokona-Yeboah, recalled his days at the University of Ghana and said it was a delight for him to contribute in this way to impact future generations.

Receiving the donation, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, Vice-Chancellor commended Mr. Addo for his generosity, and for consistently making huge donations to boost the Student Financial Aid fund. He said this was the kind of gesture expected by the University, as it was extremely beneficial to many students who for reasons of financial need, may have to terminate their studies. The Vice-Chancellor said that there was the need for Africans to inculcate the culture of philanthropy to alleviate the pain of those in need. He further called on government to establish scholarship schemes aimed at helping needy but brilliant students.

On behalf of Mrs. Stella A. Amoa, Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Joanna Omaboe, Assistant Registrar expressed profound gratitude to Mr. Addo for the donation. She commended Mr. Addo for his longstanding relationship with the University and prayed that the good Lord will flourish his business and replenish his efforts while calling on other alumni of the University to emulate his kind gesture.
Earlier, Mrs. Christine Banning, Head of the Students Financial Aid Office, in her introductory remarks, revealed that Mr. Addo was the single highest individual donor to the Student Financial Aid Office. She indicated that Mr. Addo has been consistent in making annual donations to the office, and over the years has contributed a total amount of GH¢337,000.00.

In appreciation of Mr. Addo’s kind gesture, he was presented with a giant portrait of an aerial view of the University of Ghana.
