Academic Quality Assurance Unit Organises Orientation and Training Workshop for Newly Appointed Academic Staff

A training workshop for newly appointed members of faculty has been organised by the Academic Quality Assurance Unit (AQAU).  Over forty academic staff participated in the workshop which took place at the Graduate Campus of the University of Ghana Business School.

Delivering the opening address, the Pro-Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs (ASA), Prof. Kwame Offei affirmed that the university expects all employees of the University to display a high level of moral values, adding that sanctions will be applied to employees who fail to adhere to the Code of Ethics and other rules and regulations.

“We have a Code of Ethics and if any lecturer flouts them, the University will apply the necessary sanctions,” he said.  Professor Offei further urged faculty members to be effective and efficient as they undertake their work.

Earlier, in his welcome remarks, Prof. Dan Ofori, Acting Director of the AQAU noted that the University of Ghana is on the cusp of transforming itself into a world-class institution with a clear aim of becoming the “go-to university” for both students and academics in the sub-region.

Lecturers and researchers, he said, have a leading role to play in this effort. It is therefore in this vein that newly appointed academic staff are being taken through an orientation and training workshop to equip them with the requisite skills needed to enhance students’ learning experience as well as navigate life as academics at University of Ghana.

The workshop covered Pedagogical Skills, the Use of ICT in Teaching and Learning, Ethical as well as Human Resource issues, among others.

 

Participants were divided into two groups as follows:

 

Group 1:          College of Education/Humanities

                        Wednesday, August 22 – Friday, August 24, 2018

 

Group 2:          College of Basic and Applied Sciences/Health Sciences

                        Tuesday, August 28 – Thursday, August 30, 2018
