27 Students From CACS Receive A.G.Leventis Scholarships

The College of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences (CACS), has received scholarship awards totaling GH 40,000 from the A.G. Leventis Foundation, for post graduate students at the College. The beneficiaries consist of 22 students pursuing Master of Philosophy programmes and 5 Doctor of Philosophy students.

Professor S.K. Offei, Provost of CACS

Prof. Offei recountered that over the years the selection process of students to the scholarship scheme has been challenging as the quality of applications has improved with time. He therefore appealed to the Foundation to increase the funding as well as the number of beneficiaries. The Provost noted that this would ensure that while there will be an increase in the number of eligible beneficiaries, successful applicants will also enjoy full scholarships.

Madam Comfort Emden, Country Representative- A.G. Leventis Foundation

The Country Representative for A.G. Leventis Foundation, Madam Comfort Emden who presented the cheques to the beneficiary students said the foundation has been supporting students at the University of Ghana for the past 25 years. Madam Emden encouraged the beneficiaries to come out with publishable research work that could be used to solicit for more grants to support the College.
The Dean of the School of Agriculture, Professor John Ofosu-Anim also expressed his gratitude to the Foundation for its continued support to the College. He advised the beneficiary students to come up with well- researched projects to justify their selection for the awards.
Through the A.G. Leventis Foundation scholarship scheme, about 20 faculty members of the University have benefitted and undertaken higher degree programmes. The scheme was suspended in 2009 and reinstituted in 2012.
