2,534 Graduate At UG March 2014 Congregation

A total of 2,534 former students of the University of Ghana, have graduated at the March 2014 graduation ceremonies held at the weekend. The morning session comprised graduands from the School of Graduate Studies, from the College of Health Sciences, comprising graduands from the University of Ghana Medical and Dental Schools, those graduating under the Bachelor of Medical Sciences programme; Bachelor of Science in Administration under the Distance Education Programme as well as those who completed Diploma programmes in Youth Development Work, Social Administration and Statistics. The afternoon session had the Bachelor of Arts students under the Distance Education programme graduating.

The morning session was presided over by the Chairman of the University Council, Hon. Justice Dr. Samuel Kofi Date-Bah while a member of the University Council, Prof. John Hyde presided over the afternoon session.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ernest Aryeetey in his address to Congregation, highlighted developments in academic programmes such as the PhD restructuring processes and the introduction of new programmes. On Research, Innovation and Development, Prof. Aryeetey noted that the University has identified four areas of concentration, Malaria research, Climate Change research, Food Security research and Poverty research, for which centres of excellence are being created. He assured Government of his unblemished loyalty and commitment to lead the University of Ghana to become institution government would be proud of, as he begins his second term as Vice-Chancellor.
While congratulating the graduands, Prof. Aryeetey urged them to surround themselves with people who believe in them, but are willing and able to critique their work and actions.

The Guest Speaker for the morning session was the Managing Director of Barclays Bank Ghana Limited, Mrs. Patience Akyianu, while the Business Development Manager of Microsoft- Ghana, Mrs. Mercy Omari Tenkorang was Guest Speaker for the afternoon session.
Valedictory addresses were also delivered by Dr. Kenneth Nana Affoh Ofori and Mr. Nana Nyarko Owusu for the morning and afternoon sessions respectively.
