University of Ghana Jubilee Choir

The Chaplaincy Board, in collaboration with the Public Affairs Directorate, has organized a Post-Easter Music Concert for members of the University community. The music concert, which was under the auspices of the Vice-Chancellor, was part of the Post Easter Celebration activities which ended with a Special Prayer and Praise Festival scheduled from Friday, 20th April to Sunday, 22nd April, 2018.

The music concert saw student singing groups and choirs from various denominations perform melodious Easter tunes and a spectacular choreography by some students of the School of Performing Arts, produced by Mr. S. A. Newman of the Department of Dance.  All the choirs were at their very best, giving the audience classical choral and contemporary music.

In brief remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu admonished the audience and the students in particular, to emulate the exemplary nature of Christ.  He stated that Christians need to be true disciples of Jesus and let the light of Christ shine in every sphere of their life.  Quoting from Proverbs 22:1, he advised students to be honest in spite of the challenges in the world.  In conclusion, he asked all to pray for the University to live up to its mission, imbibe into the students, its core values in order to contribute to make Ghana better.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Chaplaincy Board, Rev. Dr. Abamfo Atiemo, gave a short welcome address before the commencement of ministration by the various choirs groups. He noted that, in order to promote the spirit of unity among various denominational groups on campus, the Chaplaincy Board together with the leaders of the various denominations and the Executives of the University Christian Fellowship (UCF) had agreed that, for the first time in the history of the festival, the choirs would perform in groups.

Participating denominational choirs were; Perez Chapel International, Royal House Chapel International, Campus Christian Fellowship (CCF), National Union of Baptist Students (NUBS), Love Reign, Action Chapel International, Lighthouse Chapel International,  International Central Gospel Church  (ICGC), Global and Evangelical Students Association Ministry (GESAM), Winners Chapel International, Pentecost Students and Associates (PENSA), Apostolic Students Association (APOSA), Christ Apostolic Students Association (CASA), Assemblies of God Christian Ministries (AGCM), National Union of Anglican Students (NUAS), Ghana Methodist Students Union (GHAMSU), Evangelical Presbyterian Students Union (EPSU), National Union of Presbyterian Students – Ghana (NUPS-G), Ghana National Association of Adventist Students (GNAAS), Deeper Life, Christ Embassy Church, Victory Bible Church, Harvest Chapel and  Chosen Vessels Choir of the University Christian Fellowship (UCF).

The University Of Ghana Jubilee Choir & the Mass Choir equally thrilled the audience with highly spirited performances.

The theme for the 2-day Prayer and Praise festival was “Preparing for Our Future: God, The Solid Foundation” (Psalm 11:3) with Apostle General Dr. Dan Markin as the main speaker.  He was accompanied by the inspirational Miracle Wave Band who ministered melodious and soul inspiring songs to the packed audience.

In his sermon, Apostle Dan Markin urged Christians to shine as lights in this dark world of sin and be an example to their peers not only in spiritual matters but also academically since a “false balance is an abomination unto the Lord”.

Both programmes were well patronized by officials of the University.  The Vice-Chancellor and his wife, Mrs. Monica Owusu, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Kwame Offei, Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Stella A. Amoa, Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof. Patrick Ayeh-Kumi and members of the University of Ghana Chaplaincy Board (Legon and Korle-Bu campuses). The outgoing President UCF, Mr. Bright Amedahe, at the joint service on Sunday morning, took the opportunity to introduce the incoming UCF Executives and the leaders of the various denominational groups on campus to the congregation.

Minister Bernard Twumasi, who also ministered in songs, and Rev. Azigiza Jnr were the MCs for the Post-Easter Concert and the Prayer and Praise Festival respectively.
