1993 Alumni Year Group Donates to the UG Endowment Fund

The University of Ghana 1993 alumni year group has presented a cheque of GH₵50,000 to the UG @70 Endowment Fund. This was in fulfilment of a pledge to donate GH₵100,000 to the Fund. The delegation was led by Prof. Robert Darko Osei, President of the 1993 alumni group and Vice-Dean, School of Graduate Studies.

Prof. Robert Darko Osei in his introductory remarks indicated that the 1993 Year Group celebrated its 25th Anniversary last year and as part of their anniversary they wanted to give back to the University. He further assured the Vice-Chancellor of the group’s readiness to promote the activities of the University.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the University, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu lauded the group as the pacesetters, adding that the1993 year group is the first alumni year group to donate towards the UG@70 Endowment Fund.

Prof. Oduro Owusu reiterated the intended purpose of the Endowment Fund, which he said was to build an institution for posterity, a task he indicated called for collective effort from various stakeholders, including alumni. The Vice-Chancellor said that there was the need for the University to be in good financial standing and uphold good financial practices as the image adding that the fortunes of the alumni are tied to the University.  He further charged the alumni to get involved in the affairs of the University and assist the University sustain its image.  He pledged to work hard during his tenure to ensure that the University continues to be in good standing.

In brief remarks, the Director of Public Affairs, Mrs Stella A. Amoa who was full of praise for the group, encouraged them to use their standing in society to help raise the image of the University wherever they found themselves. She charged them not to relent in supporting the University, urging them to adopt projects to help in the development of the University.

In her remarks, Mrs. Christy Badu, Deputy Registrar, Alumni Relations Office expressed gratitude to the year group and hoped other year groups would emulate their gesture. She used the opportunity to outline the plans the Alumni Relations Office had to culminate the University’s 70th Anniversary, including a Home-Coming slated for August this year.

Present at the ceremony were Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, Secretary of the 1993 year alumni group; Prof. Peter Quartey, Dr. Olivia Anku Tsede, Mr. David Okyere Nyarko, Mrs. Maggie Ampah, Mrs. Genevieve Abban, Mr. Louis Amo, Mr. L. Ofosu Adjare, Nana Kwame G. Ntim, and Mr. Alhassan Mahama Iddrisu, all members of the 1993-year group.

Also, in attendance from the University of were Mr. Kwasi Odame, Head, Interim Management Committee of the Finance Directorate, Dr. Ibrahim Bedi, Ag. Director, Internal Audit Directorate and Mr. Joseph Nkansah, Senior Assistant Registrar, Office of the Vice Chancellor.

All alumni were presented with University souvenirs.
