The deep sea environment is an area that is accorded little attention but holds lots of resources and play host to a number of living organisms worth studying. The course will delve into the Structure and function of benthic systems; Hydrothermal vents and cold seeps; Secondary productivity of the deep sea; Species diversity of deep sea environment; Adaptation and distribution of deep sea life forms; Census of deep sea life; Exploring deep sea environment; Impact studies of deep sea mineral exploration; Deep sea drilling; and Introductory deep sea archaeology.
