The Chemical Oceanography course covers a broad range of areas in relation to chemistry and chemical processes of the marine environment. Students are introduced to basic chemical and geochemical processes in the ocean. Students will be made to understand the Scope of chemical oceanography; Chemical properties of seawater; Major pathways of natural elements and other substances; Dissolution of gases in seawater; Henry’s Law; Atmospheric Chemistry; Carbonate System; Interactions between particulate and dissolved constituents of seawater; Marine pollution chemistry; Speciation of elements in seawater; Processes occurring at the sediment-water interface; Marine analytical organic chemistry; Photochemical processes.
