About the Programme

Aims & Objectives

The overall objective of the International Training Programme on Peacebuilding and Good Governance for African Civilian Personnel (hereafter ITPPGG) is to increase the readiness and professionalism of African civilian personnel participating in peacekeeping and other peace support missions and to enhance their capacity to respond effectively to the complex challenges of post-conflict reconstruction.

The courses intend to bring together a rich cross-section of individuals, both as faculty and participants, coming from different backgrounds and representing a diverse range of cultural and professional experiences.

The ITPPGG is a classic example of a productive and critical North-South collaboration. Specifically, it stems from the cooperation between two renowned Universities, one in the South and one in the North, which provide the Project with their in-built research support and lengthy expertise as Centres of Excellence'.

The ITPPGG uniqueness lies in the fact that it has been developed with sensitivity to the African environment, Africa's needs, Africa 's culture and the dynamics of the operations to be undertaken. Moreover, the ITPPGG policy is to choose its resource persons mainly from the available and well supplied pool of professional African specialists.

Thanks to the features outlined above, the ITPPGG enjoys the full support of both the Ghanaian and Italian Governments. The ITPPGG aims at strengthening the African capacity to operate effectively in peace operations by providing the continent with a ready pool of skilled, knowledgeable and sensitive personnel for deployment in peace support operations in Africa .

More specifically, the ITPPGG aims at consolidating the earlier activities for the enhancement of the capacity of African civilian personnel to respond to conflicts, emergencies, post-conflict reconstruction needs, new peace support and good governance capacity needs emerging in Africa.
