Internships and Volunteer Opportunities

A wide variety of opportunities are available, depending solely on needs of the local organization and the specific interests and/or skills of the student volunteer. ISEP staff will help set these up for you. Students are not paid and do not earn credits for these internships.

Below are a few points to keep in mind if you are considering pursuing this particular option.

  1. Think carefully before deciding to work with a particular agency. This is not a program requirement. Quitting after only a few weeks of working for an institution makes it very difficult for us to place students ate same institution in the future.
  2. Dress appropriately. Your clothes should be clean and neat and not too casual. For example, wearing a T-shirt and tennis shoes or flip-flops to a health clinic or primary school would not be appropriate.
  3. In some cases, institutions where students are placed are not accustomed to working with volunteers and have a difficult time finding work for the intern to do. In these circumstances, students may have to carve out their own particular niche, i.e. role or function within the organization.
