In an address Prof. Osam said the effort by the University to expand residential facilities for its students was partly aimed at creating the environment for students to develop certain essential skills of social and communal living. Noting that the capacity of the five halls presupposes that the bulk of the resident students would live in that vicinity of the University, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor called on the IMC to ensure that the structures and facilities needed to make life bearable for the students, such as water supply, were put in place or maintained.
Prof. Osam commended the management committee members of other residential facilities of the University who graced the ceremony, for their support for the incoming IMC.
The Acting Master of the Hilla Limann Hall, Mrs. Alexina Arthur, in a Welcome Address said in the absence of the traditional Tutorial Boards and Hall Councils, the IMC would support the Heads of the halls and Senior Tutors to make provision for good governance and discipline in the halls, as well as cater for the welfare of Junior Members, among other roles. She called on her colleague-members of the IMC to cooperate with each other so they could improve conditions in the Halls for the students.
Earlier, Rev. Dr. Gertrude Adobea Owusu, a Tutor at the A.A. Kwapong Hall offered prayers committing the IMC to God and asking for guidance for its work.
