Entry Requirements

 

The Department of English offers a program leading to M.A./M.Phil/PhD. degree in English.

The Master of Arts degree requirement is:

A good degree in English. Candidates offering the Language option must have specialist knowledge of English Language 

 

M.A English Programme

The Department of English offers a program leading to an M.A. degree in English. The Master of Arts degree requirement is:

 a. A good First Degree in English


Program Requirements

I. M.A. ENGLISH PROGRAMME
The M.A. is a two-semester programme consisting of lectures spanning a full academic year and an examination plus an M.A. Dissertation on an approved topic relating to candidate’s area of specialisation.

II. EXAMINATION PAPERS AND COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
Research Methodology carry two (3) credits each per semester. Each of the other courses carries three (3) credits.

Students at Level 600 will require a minimum of 39 credits to obtain an M.A. degree.

Course work           24 credits
Seminar presentation  3 credits
Dissertation             12 credits
total                       39 credits

 

 

M.PHIL English Programme

The Department of English offers a program leading to an M.Phil degree in English. The Master of Arts degree requirement is:

a. A good degree in English

Program Requirements

 

I. M.PHIL ENGLISH PROGRAMME
The M.Phil. is a four-semester programme embodying the course work and examination performance plus another year of research relating to a Thesis on an approved topic.

II. EXAMINATION PAPERS AND COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
Research Methodology carry two (3) credits each per semester. Each of the other courses carries three (3) credits.

For each semester, a student will be required to four courses In addition to these, Research Methodology is also compulsory in the first and second semesters.

M.PHIL

1st Year

Course work                               24 credits
Seminar                                       3 credits

(A minimum of 24 credits is required)                

 

 2nd Year

Seminar II                                    3 credits
Thesis                                        30 credits
Viva                                            6 credits
Total                                          72 Credits
