PhD
The School intends to start a PhD programme in Communication Studies soon. We see this as a necessary step toward providing an opportunity for strengthening our own staff at the School as well as developing the requisite staff and manpower base for other communication training institutions both in the country and elsewhere in order to strengthen communication scholarship. Currently, no institution in Ghana offers this programme and it is expected that its introduction will serve as an added attraction to the School which also has the potential to open up opportunities for higher scholarly work.
At the onset, we have initiated collaboration with institutions offering similar programmes elsewhere notably in the United States and Canada. By such collaboration, it is expected that our PhD candidates will spend, at least, one year at such institutions to gather some research resources and to deepen their readings in their chosen study areas.
SHORT COURSES
We also have plans of introducing short courses aimed at refreshing practitioner knowledge to emerging trends within the communication industry. These would be targeted at industry practitioners, middle and top level management personnel who need to understand the communication contexts in which they operate as well as practitioners in emerging industries such as the Oil and Gas industry, services industry etc. Courses envisaged include:
- Public Speaking
- Speech Writing
- Internal Communication
- Protocol and Etiquette
- Creative Writing
- Media Planning
- Climate Change
- Science Reporting
- Health Reporting
