Welcome to the School of Communication Studies (SCS) of the University of Ghana.
Established in 1972, the School of Communication Studies is the premier institution which offers graduate programmes in communication studies and one of only two such institutions in Ghana. Since its inception, the School has graduated close to 1,000 students with Graduate Diplomas, M.A. and M.Phil degrees in Communication Studies. These graduates have made important contributions to development at national and international levels through their professional expertise as Journalists, Public Relations Specialists, Media Managers, Advertising practitioners, Researchers, Development Communication Planners and Specialists, Academics and Practitioners in various other media and communication endeavours. SCS alumni are found in most important areas of national life: government, public, military, policy and other state institutions; private and non-governmental organizations. Some have also made their mark in UN agencies and programmes, other reputable international organizations and in academia.
As the premier institution offering graduate communication programmes in Ghana, the School has an oversight responsibility over such institutions as Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), African University College of Communications (AUCC) and the Christian Service University College (CSUC) which offer communication studies at the diploma and first degree levels.
The School’s library with its stock of books, journals, publications and other reading materials, and its computer laboratory with internet connectivity facilitate student academic and project work to minimize trips to the main University’s ICT Centre and Balme Library. Our students can and do access information for their class assignments and projects right here thanks to the School’s newly equipped computer laboratory complete with a scanner and printer! Students offering Print Journalism have an opportunity to produce a newspaper (THE CAMPUS), which is printed at the School’s Printing Press. The Printing Press also prints jobs for various departments of the University and University Community at affordable rates.
Studying at the School of Communication Studies is both rewarding and exciting! Our students feel at home with faculty, staff and facilities provided. The relationship they develop with the School as students is maintained after graduation as alumni throughout their work life. We invite you to come and study at the School to savour an unforgettable experience! We also invite you to go through the pages of our website to experience the School of Communication Studies.
