About the Department

Nutrition section of the Department is a Centre of Excellence for:

  • Maternal and Child Nutrition research
  • Micro-nutrient research
  • Nutrition of the Elderly
  • Nutrition and HIV/AIDS
  • Community Nutrition
  • Anthropometric Assessment of children

Food Science section is a centre of excellence for:

  • Traditional Food Processing research.
  • Cereals and Root/tuber processing
  • Fruits/vegetables processing
  • Legumes & oilseed processing
  • Fish processing
  • Quality and sensory characterization of foods

Extension activities

  • Nutrition education programs in print and electronic media.
  • Technical food control and regulation with Food and Drugs Board, Ghana Standards Board and Food Research Institute.
  • Consultancy services on Food and Nutrition to various organizations. (UN agencies, Government organizations, Food Industries, NGOs, etc.)
