Research

Research activities in the Department are organized into four main areas:

Biochemistry of Natural Products (Chemical Biology)

Plants and Fungal natural products and their bioactivities

Molecular Genetics and Genomics

Application of molecular techniques in the study of microbial biodiversity, DNA barcoding of plants and animals, bacteriophages, genomics etc

Parasite and Insect Biochemistry

Protozoan parasites – Plasmodium and Trypanosome, Prokaryotic parasites – Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium ulcerans, Viruses – plant and animal viruses and Insect Pest, pesticide action and residual analysis.

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology

Bioremediation, Biotransformation in biofuels and animal feed, etc.
