Sandwich Diploma Programmes
The University of Ghana runs sandwich programmes during the long vacation. For the 2011-2012 Academic Year, the under-listed Diploma programmes will be offered on sandwich basis on the main University Campus. Students admitted would come into residence on the main University Campus at Legon during the long vacation - June to August 2012. The programmes have been structured to span three to four long vacations. Currently, the following programmes are available to any interested candidate on application:
AVAILABLE PROGRAMMES
- Adult Education – Offered at the Institute of Continuing and Distance Education
- General Agriculture – Offered at the College of Agriculture & Consumer Sciences.
- Social Administration – Offered at the Department of Social Work
GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
To be admitted to a Diploma programme, a candidate must satisfy the following minimum requirements besides conditions stipulated for the particular programme.
i. Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations:
a. Candidates must obtain credit passes (A1 - C6 in WASSSCE and A – D in SSSCE) in all the four (4) core subjects (English Language, Core Mathematics, Core Science/Integrated Science and Social Studies/Life Skills) and credit passes (A1 - C6 in WASSSCE and A – D in SSSCE) in any two electives.
ii. Competitive Entrance Examination
Candidates applying to Diploma programmes shall, in addition to (i) above, be required to pass a competitive Entrance Examination conducted by the University of Ghana, and an interview (where prescribed by the Department) except where otherwise indicated.
SCHOOL/FACULTY/ DEPARTMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Diploma (Sandwich) Programmes
i. Adult Education:
The Diploma in Adult Education (Sandwich Programme) is a comprehensive two (2) long vacation programme that requires students to do field work, communicate with their lecturers and write observation reports in-between the long vacations.
Entry Requirements
Category A: - Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations:
Candidates must obtain credit passes (A1 - C6 in WASSSCE and A – D in SSSCE) in all the four (4) core subjects (English Language, Core Mathematics, Core Science/Integrated Science and Social Studies/Life Skills) and credit passes (A1 - C6 in WASSSCE and A – D in SSSCE) in any two electives.
Category B: - Mature Applicants:
Mature applicants aged 27 years and above by January 31, 2012 may apply.
Competitive Entrance Examination
Applicants in Categories A and B will be required to write and pass a competitive entrance examination to be conducted by the University of Ghana.
ii. General Agriculture:
The Diploma in Agriculture is a 3-Semester (long vacations) intensive programme. As part of the programme, students will also be required to undertake a 12-week field attachment on a recognized farm, Research Institute or related institutions after the second semester. The following 3 categories of applicants may apply:
Category A –
a. Applicants with WASSSCE/SSSCE results must have:
In addition to the four core subjects, applicants must have passes in one or two of Chemistry, Physics and Elective Mathematics.
b. Applicants who have a pass in only one of the of the three subjects in (a.) should in addition have a pass in one of the following subjects:
Biology
General Agriculture
Crop Husbandry and Horticulture
Forestry, Animal Husbandry
Economics
Geography
Fisheries
• Category B – Applicants with Post-Secondary Teacher Training Certificate ‘A’ or Agricultural College Certificate.
CATEGORY A AND B APPLICANTS ARE EXEMPTED FROM WRITING THE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION
• Category C – Applicants who do not meet the requirements under categories A or B may write an entrance examination to be conducted by the School of Agriculture, University of Ghana. Such students should be 25 years or above by January 31, 2012.
iii. Social Administration:
The Diploma in Social Administration is a 4-semester (long vacation) programme in Social Work.
Candidates must obtain credit passes (A1 - C6 in WASSSCE and A – D in SSSCE) in all the four (4) core subjects (English Language, Core Mathematics, Core Science/Integrated Science and Social Studies/Life Skills) and credit passes (A1 - C6 in WASSSCE and A – D in SSSCE) in any two electives.
Candidates must pass an entrance examination and an interview. |
