Network Administrator

Deputy Information Technology Officer (Infrastructure)

 

JOB SUMMARY
The Network Administrator (NA) reports to the Deputy CITO (Infrastructure) and is responsible for identifying the requirements of the UGCS networks (LAN and WAN). Specifically the NA oversees the design, implementation and maintenance of the networks. The NA leads a team to perform a wide variety of other activities including upgrades, network performance monitoring and training to ensure the effective and efficient performance of the network.

 

Key responsibilities include, among others, to:

  • Establish network specifications by conferring with users; analyzing workflow, access information, and security requirements; designing router administration, including interface configuration and routing protocols
  • Establish networks by evaluating network performance issues including availability, utilization, throughput, and latency; plan and execute the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of equipment; define network policies and procedures; establish connections and firewalls.
  • Ensure good network performance by performing network monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshoot network problems; escalate problems to vendors and service providers, whenever the need arises.
  • Plan and implement network security by developing network access control,  including setting up of firewalls, managing host security, applying cryptography to network applications, and regulating network access and applications permissions.
  • Troubleshoot computing systems, networks, and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and to resolve other operational difficulties.
  • Upgrade the network by conferring with vendors and developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements.
  • Ensure that hardware, software, and network upgrades, installations, re-installations, changes and relocations are efficiently completed as required.
  • Facilitate the user training for efficient use of network resources.
  • Investigate, recommend and install enhancements and operating procedures that regulate network availability.

 

 

QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education – A Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology/Engineering or related field.
Plus relevant advanced professional level qualification or industry skill based certification such as Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE), Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA) and/or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).

  • 5-6 years’ experience in all areas of local and wide area networks management and administration including system configuration, setup, troubleshooting, planning, designing, implementation, and user support.
  • Experience in installing and supporting major server technologies and telecommunications equipment in large public or private sector organizations.
  • Ability to communicate concepts and processes clearly and effectively in oral and written form.
  • Ability to plan, design, and maintain data networks and servers; provide technical support to users; administer day-to-day operation of networks and servers.
  • Upholding high ethical and moral standards.
  • Ability to coordinate and work  with teams.
