JOB SUMMARY
The Deputy CITO (Planning, Security and Support) reports to the CITO and plays the role of planning, ensuring security and providing support of information systems for the successful execution of the University of Ghana’s (UG) ) mission of an educational provider.
The Deputy CITO (Planning, Security and Support) works with UGCS team and external partners to provide efficient planning, security and support services. The Deputy CITO advises the CITO about IT strategy, security and support. The job requires envisioning the university’s service offerings – education, research, extension and administration – as a business model driven by IT.
The Deputy CITO (Planning, Security and Support) oversees the following units:

IT Planning and Security, and
-
IT Support Services

Key responsibilities include, to:
-
Provide direction and leadership to the IT Planning, Security and Support department
-
Oversee projects, services and support functions required by employees and students
-
Work with employees and students to review user needs and experiences to ensure the highest level of IT support.
-
Advance the development and implementation of IT policies and strategies that support the university’s mission.
-
Lead in IT strategic planning initiatives.
-
Ensure data security across all units within the University.
-
Perform other duties as required in support of the IT functions or as assigned by the CITO.

|
QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Education – A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, IT Management or a related field
-
10-12 years’ working experience in the IT industry with a minimum of 6 years progressive management experience overseeing and leading IT planning, support and security initiatives.
-
Experience in managing an IT division within a large organization in the

|
public or private sector
-
Good technical, analytical, organizational, planning, and budgeting skills.
-
Ability to communicate concepts and processes clearly and effectively in oral and written form.
-
Experience in managing external vendor relationships.
-
A broad knowledge of trends and future directions of IT and its application in higher education.
-
Good understanding of project management principles
-
Advanced knowledge and experience in IT security
-
Ability to determine IT security requirements, and develop an annual financial budget sufficient to cover the cost of technical support, supervision, software purchases, computer upgrades and replacement.
