First Call for Papers-International Conference on Accounting and Finance in Africapdf print preview print preview
 
The Departments of Accounting and Finance, University of Ghana in collaboration with the Department of Accounting and Finance, University of Birmingham, UK is organising an International Conference on Accounting and Finance in Africa. The details are as follows:

Venue: The University of Ghana Business School, Legon, Accra, Ghana.

Date: 7th – 9th September, 2011

Conference Theme: Accounting, Finance, Governance and Development in Africa: Issues and Challenges.

The Conference:

The organisers of the International Conference on Accounting and Finance in Africa invite submissions on the theme Accounting, Finance, Governance and Development in Africa: Issues and Challenges. The conference aims to bring together established scholars, early career researchers, graduate students, policy makers, professional bodies and practitioners to debate the role of accounting and finance in governance and development in Africa.

We also plan to launch the African Accounting and Finance Association (AAFA) during the conference. We hope AAFA will help advance knowledge and understanding of education, research and practice in all areas of accounting and finance in Africa.

Submission of Manuscripts:

Abstract of between 200 and 300 words should be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word format by 30th April 2011. Authors will be notified of the acceptance of their abstract by 31st May 2011. Full papers must be submitted no later than 31st July 2011. Abstracts and full papers should indicate the name(s) of author(s) and the name of corresponding author with their email address and other contact details.
Submissions should be made electronically to aafconference@ug.edu.gh. All submissions will be peer reviewed.

Special Issue on African Critical Accounting

Selected papers from the conference that address critical accounting issues in Africa will be considered for a special issue of Critical Perspectives on Accounting (CPA). These papers will be subjected to the normal double blind refereeing policy of the journal.

Special Issue of Research in Accounting in Emerging Economies (RAEE)

Authors may also wish for their papers to be considered for a special issue of Research in Accounting in Emerging Economies (RAEE). These papers will be subjected to the normal double blind refereeing policy of the journal.



Accounting in Francophone Africa

There will be a special track on Accounting in Francophone Africa sponsored by OHADA. Papers for this track should be submitted in English or French electronically to Dr Charles Elad at the email address: c.elad@westminster.ac.uk

Social Event: Visit to the Cape Coast Castle

We plan to organise a trip to the Cape Coast Castle on day 3 of the conference. The Castle was prominent in the transatlantic slave trade. Further details on the Castle can be obtained from http://www.capecoastcastlemuseum.com.

The registration fee should be paid in US$ on registration as follow:
  Early birds (before Jul 31st 2011) Normal (after July 31st 2011)
Academics and Professionals outside Africa US$300 US$370
Academics and Professionals based in Africa US$200 US$270
Students outside Africa US$100 US$150
Students based in Africa US$100 US$150

The conference fee will include all conference materials, lunches, coffee breaks and conference dinner. Delegates should make their own accommodation arrangements. We have negotiated special rates with some local hotels and details of these will be published on the conference website soon.
