The Student Financial Aid Office has recently received an amount of GH¢12,000.00(Twelve thousand Ghana cedis) to support the Students’ needy fund.

A cheque for this amount was presented to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Kweku Osam by the Head of Public Sector, Ecobank Ghana Ltd. Mr. Carl Asem.

According to Mr. Asem, the donation was part of Ecobank’s corporate social responsibility. He mentioned that apart from playing the role of collecting fees on behalf of the University, Ecobank was also committed to assisting students who are financially handicapped to enable them go through their education. He noted that this was not the first time the bank was making such a donation, and promised that Ecobank would continue to assist in this regard.

Professor E.K. Osam, who received the donation on behalf of the University, thanked Ecobank Ghana for their assistance to needy students of the University. He said the relationship between Ecobank and the University has been a long standing one and hoped it will continue for mutual benefit, adding that the donation signalled Ecobank’s continued interest in the welfare of the University.

Professor Osam noted that during the University’s 50th anniversary, alumni were mobilized to contribute towards the building of Jubilee Hall through the ingenuity of some alumni as the late Dr. Jean Nelson Aka. Recalling that Dr. Aka was a former Managing Director of Ecobank, Prof. Osam called on Ecobank to consider associating with the Jean Nelson Aka Hall as a way of immortalizing Dr. Aka’s memory.

The ceremony was also attended by Mrs. Christine Banning, Head, Students’ Financial Aid 0ffice, Madam Margarette Tufuo-Ampem, Ecobank Legon Branch Manager, and the Relationship Officer, Madam Vivian Ahene-Affoh.
