The meeting, arranged by the UNEP Chief Scientist Dr Joe Alcamo, was attended by Peter Gilruth, Director of the Division of Early Warning and Assessment (DEWA), Fatoumata Keita-Ouane Chief Scientific Assessment Branch, DEWA and Keith Alverson, Chief Climate Change Adaptation and Terrestrial Ecosystems, Division of Environmental Policy Implementation.
Prof Gordon took the opportunity during the meeting to introduce the newly established Institute for Environment and Sanitation Studies of the University of Ghana to the Executive Director and presented him a copy of “Ghana Goes for Green Growth” a document that staff of the Institute had helped prepare for the Ghana Government through the National Climate Change Committee.
The mission of the IESS, established in 2010, is to meet the nation's needs for broad-based education, training and research in the science, policy and management of environmental and sanitation processes in the wider African and global context. In line with its mission, the IESS seeks to employ interdisciplinary and participatory approaches to train future managers who will contribute to the protection, management and development of the country’s natural resources. | | | | Date Published: 13/10/2011 | | | | | |
