| | HFC Bank Donates to the SFAO of the University of Ghana |  | | | The Student Financial Aid Office (SFAO)of the University of Ghana has received an amount of Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 5,000) from HFC Bank to be disbursed in scholarships to brilliant-needy students of the University in the 2011/2012 academic year.
The amount was presented to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. E. K. Osam, by the Executive Director of HFC Bank, Mr. Akwetey Akita, at a Corporate Social Responsibility event held at the Bank’s Head-Office in Accra. Prof. Osam was accompanied by the Head of the SFAO, Mrs. Christine Baning.
Making the presentation Mr. Akita said HFC Bank annually donates 1% of its profit-after-tax in fulfillment of its corporate social responsibility obligations towards 20 institutions which include the SFAO. He said the donation, made with the approval of the Bank’s shareholders with the aim of helping the deprived in society, goes mainly to institutions operating in the areas of health and education. He said the areas of operation of HFC Bank, which is a universal bank, include commercial, mortgage, and investment banking, whilst also having Unit and Equity Trust divisions as well as “HFC Boafo”, a microfinance subsidiary.
Mrs. Baning thanked HFC Bank, assuring them that the money would be given in scholarships to some of the 200 brilliant but needy students of the University that her Office supports annually towards fulfilling their dreams of acquiring quality, tertiary education. She said apart from donor funds, the SFAO assists the deprived students to secure part-time jobs within the university community.
Mrs. Mercy Tetteh, Secretary to HFC Bank, disclosed that the Bank has consistently fulfilled its social responsibility duties for 18 years. She advised the beneficiary institutions to submit written updates on their operations annually to the Bank.
Other institutions also received donations from HFC Bank at the ceremony.
Present at the ceremony were Messrs Ofori Acquah, General Manager in charge of Business Development, and Charles Martinson, General Manager in charge of Operations, and Nana Ama Ofosuhene, Head of Corporate Affairs, all of HFC Bank, and Mrs. Vivian Nettey of the SFAO. | | | | Date Published: 03/10/2011 | | | |  | |
