The University of Ghana has signed Memoranda of Understanding with the Catholic Institute of Business and Technology (CIBT), Central University College (CUC), and the Knutsford University College (KUC).

Under the agreements, the CIBT and KUC would offer Bachelor of Science degree programmes in Business Administration, Public Administration and Management, Computer Science, and Information Technology, whilst the CUC would offer Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic and Student Affairs and Chairman of the Inter-Faculty Committee on Affiliation, Prof. E. K. Osam, and the Director of Academic Affairs, Mr. E. A. Amartey, signed on behalf of the University. The President and Registrar of CIBT, Monsignor Dr. Jonathan T. Ankrah, and Mr. Peter D. Osebre, signed on behalf of the CIBT, while President of the CUC, and Vice-President of Academic Affairs, Prof. P. Y. Gadzekpo, and Prof. K. Oduro-Afriyie signed on behalf of the CUC. The President of the KUC, Prof. Robert Ampomah, and Registrar, Dr.Nana Opong, also signed for their institution.

Prof. Osam commended the three institutions for their forbearance during the elaborate processes and procedures for affiliation. He emphasized that institutions affiliated to the University are required to enforce academic quality assurance by ensuring that students in affiliate institutions have the required grades and credits for admission and graduation. He added that the University will also ensure that the reorganization of programmes as well as degree classification systems, are in line with those of the University. He assured the three institutions of the university’s support in reorganizing their programme requirements and noted that there would be constant monitoring of their programmes.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor noted that the University of Ghana would appoint representatives to the Governing Councils, as well as Academic, Admissions and Appointment Boards of the three institutions. He also urged them to produce their schedule of meetings every academic year, as well as link their websites to that of the University of Ghana.

Prof. Osam announced that the University was deferring the processing of affiliation applications to enable it put in place further structures to enhance academic quality assurance in affiliate institutions. He also called on affiliate institutions which were indebted to the University to pay up, since, as he put it, “the processes of evaluating programmes to maintain affiliation are expensive”.

On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Osam congratulated the three institutions, hoping that they would abide by the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding to ensure quality education for their students.

In brief remarks, the Director of Academic Affairs, Mr. Enoch Amartey assured the three institutions that the University was determined to help affiliate institutions come out among the best in their areas of teaching and learning, adding that requirements for admissions, examinations, and certification would be enforced to the letter.

Speaking on behalf of the institutions, Prof. Gadzekpo, President of the Central University College, thanked the University of Ghana for the collaboration, and gave assurance of their willingness to abide by all regulations and laid down procedures.

With the signing of these agreements, the University of Ghana now has a total of twenty-one educational institutions affiliated to it.
