| | Prof. Sefa-Dedeh Appointed Vice-Chairperson Of FAO/WHO Codex Alimentarius Commission |  | | | Prof. Samuel Kofi Sefa-Dedeh, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Sciences has been appointed one of the three Vice-Chairpersons of the FAO/WHO Codex Alimentarius Commission.
The appointment was made at the recently held 34th session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission in Geneva, Switzerland. With this appointment Prof. Sefa-Dedeh will serve with the Chairperson (from India) and the other two Vice Chairs (from Canada and Switzerland) as officers of the Commission and lead its work.
The Codex Alimentarius Commission was created in 1963 by the FAO and WHO. Its mandate is to develop food standards, guidelines and related texts such as codes of practice under the Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Programme. The main purposes of this Programme are protecting health of the consumers and ensuring fair trade practices in the food trade. It is also to promote coordination of all food standards work undertaken by international governmental and non-governmental organizations. | | | | Date Published: 12/07/2011 | | | |  | |
