| | University Of Ghana Governance Review Committee Presents Report To Vice-Chancellor |  | | | The University of Ghana Governance Review Committee which was set up last year by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ernest Aryeetey has presented its report to the Vice-Chancellor in a short ceremony yesterday.
The Committee was chaired by Professor Ni Ashie Kotey of the Faculty of Law. Other members of the committee were Chairman of the Public Services Commission, Professor S.N. Woode, past Registrar of the University, Mr. G.F. Daniel, the immediate past Executive Secretary of the National Council on Tertiary Education (NCCE), Mr. P. Effah, and Head of the Department of Soil Science Professor G.N.N Dowuona. The rest were Professor Esther Sakyi-Dawson of the Department of Nutrition and Food Science, the Head of Organization and Human Resource Management Department, University of Ghana Business School, Dr. D. Ofori, and the Vice-Dean, Faculty of Social Studies, Ms. Abena D. Oduro. Mr. E. Baidoo, Senior Assistant Registrar was Secretary to the Committee.
The Committee had the mandate among others to review the functionality of the current structure of University Governance to determine whether the structure was overly hierarchical and whether it promotes innovativeness and initiative in teaching Departments, Schools, Research Institutes and Centers and suggest recommendations. Also, to review the relationship between Colleges of the University and the Central Administration to find out among other things whether lines of authority are well-defined and if the system can be more effective and more efficient. In addition, the committee was tasked to review the effectiveness of recently created Directorates of the Central Administration as well as review the relationship between the component units of the Collages and the College administration.
Presenting copies of the report to the Vice-Chancellor on behalf of the Committee, the Chairman, Professor N.A. Kotey said the committee was happy to have been given the opportunity to undertake the assignment and hoped the report would take the University to the level it is expected to be.

The Vice-Chancellor in receiving the report acknowledged the commitment with which the Committee had approached its task and assured them that he would look at the report and present it to the Executive Committee. | | | | Date Published: 11/02/2011 | | | |  | |
