FORMER CHAIRMAN OF COUNCIL DONATES TO DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS

The immediate past Chairman of the University Council, Mr. Anthony Oteng-Gyasi, has donated 10 copies of a book titled, Europeans Brand of Trojan Horses? Africa and the Economic Partnership Agreements, to the Department of Economics. The book which was recently launched in Accra was authored by Professor S.K.B. Asante, an Educationist and International Consultant.
Mr. Oteng-Gyasi, said during the review of the book he realised it was not only a political material but also useful to economists. It was for this reason that he decided to procure copies for use at the Department of Economics.
Mr. Oteng-Gyasi called for a change in the graduate curriculum to make it more responsive to the needs of the country. In addition, he called for more collaboration between training institutions and industries, to provide appropriate capacity to bridge the various gaps that exist in industries.
The immediate past Chairman of Council, who is also a former student of the Department, pledged his continuous support in diverse ways to ensure that the Department captures the prime place as a world class centre for economic analysis.
Receiving the donation, the Head of Department of Economics, Dr. Fritz Augustine Gockel commended Mr. Oteng-Gyasi for his continued support for the Department.
He mentioned in particular, the support he provided in the campaign to establish the Department’s Annex Project and the plans to turn the Department into a School of Economics and Development. He was also thankful, for Mr. Oteng-Gyasi’s efforts to initiate the Department’s Lecture Series. Dr. Gockel said the donation meant that some form of economic gap was being filled in the nation.
Present at the ceremony were Dr. Edward Nketiah-Amponsah and Dr. A. D.A. Laryea, both lecturers at the Department.
