| | University Of Ghana And Institute Of Research Development, Sign MOU | | | | The University of Ghana and the Institute of Research for Development (IRD) in France have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which seeks to establish a framework for cooperative programmes between the University and the IRD.
The ceremony took place when a delegation led by the IRD’s representative in West Africa, Mr. Bruno Bordage, called on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. C.N.B Tagoe.
Outlining the terms of the MOU, Mr. Bordage explained that it sought to develop and facilitate international academic and scientific exchanges between the two parties, as well as support mutual research activities. Further, it is envisaged that scholars from the two institutions would collaborate to publish and exchange journals and other publications in French, as well as build scientific partnerships.
He said it was also expected that the collaborations would strengthen academic relationships between Ghana and other IRD-partner countries in West Africa such as Togo, Benin and Nigeria.
Prof. Tagoe, who signed on behalf of the University, was happy about efforts made by the French Embassy in Ghana to facilitate the signing of the MOU, and hoped that it would open a significant chapter for the University.
He thanked the IRD and pledged his full support for the collaboration which he expected would materialize into great opportunities for the two institutions.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Head of the Department of Oceanography and Fisheries of the University, Dr. Francis Nunoo, anticipated that the collaboration would be of benefit to the advancement of oceanography and marine science in Ghana.
