| | University of Ghana Collaborates with Mo Ibrahim Foundation |  | | |
In collaboration with the University, the Mo Ibrahim Foundation has held a Public lecture on the topic" Reclaiming good governance: recasting the governance debate around civil society" at the R.S. Amegashie Auditorium, University of Ghana Business School. The lecture was attended by a large number of students of the university and other distinguished personalities.
In his introductory remarks, Dr. Ibrahim mentioned that the Foundation was keen on linking with African governments with regard to safety and security; rule of law; transparency and anti-corruption; sustainable economic opportunity and human development, among others. He added that the Index of African Governance, which is a wing of the Foundation, is aimed at strengthening governance in Africa in order to improve the lives of Africans everywhere.
While challenging students to get involved in the discussions on good governance, Dr. Ibrahim used the occasion to appeal to the government to extensively invest in the youth by building the capacity for future good governance.
Other presentations were delivered by Dr. Mamphela Ramphele, former Managing Director of the World Bank and Chair of the UN's Global Commission on International Migration, HE Dr. Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights as well as Mme. Aicha Bah Diallo, former Guinean Minister of Education and Special Advisor to UNESCO, all members of the Foundation.
The Mo Ibrahim Foundation which was launched in October 2006, is a non-profit organization. It is the vision of Dr. Ibrahim, a renowned Sudanese business leader and founder of Celtel International, an African telecommunication company. Set up as an African initiative, the Foundation has the objective of stimulating debate on good governance across sub-Saharan Africa and the world.
