Mr. Lawrence Addo, an alumnus of the University has made a donation of GH¢12,000.00 (Twelve thousand Ghana cedis) to the Students Financial Aid Office (SFAO) of the University. Mr. Lawrence Addo who is Chief Executive Officer of Relish Health life Company presented the cheque at a short ceremony at the company’s office at Osu.

He noted that the donation is his personal contribution to support the education of needy students of the University. He said he is very passionate about education and believes that the more people get educated, the more the nation develops.

Mr. Addo said even though this was not the first time he was making a donation to the University, he was encouraged to do so again after he read about a similar donation made by Latex Foam Company Limited to the Student Financial Aid Office, earlier this year.  He recalled that under the platform of the Vice-Chancellor’s Meeting with alumni and friends of the University in 2003, during the period Professor Asenso-Okyere was Vice-Chancellor, he made a donation of ¢20,000.000.00 (Twenty million cedis) towards the construction of hostels. Mr. Addo revealed that even though his company has been supporting students at the pre-tertiary level  under the National Partnership for Children’s Trust (NPCT)  the donation he was making was a personal one as an alumnus of the University.

The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. J. K. Adomako thanked Mr. Addo for the kind donation adding that it will assist many needy students who would otherwise have missed the opportunity to access higher education because of their inability to pay school fees.  He said he was particularly happy because the donation was a personal one first of all, from an alumnus of the University, and without any conditions attached to it.

The Head of SFAO, Mrs. Christine Baning on behalf of the beneficiaries expressed profound gratitude to Mr. Addo for his kind gesture and hoped Mr. Addo will sustain the gesture as promised.

Dr. Adomako later presented a letter of acknowledgement signed by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Ernest Aryeetey, to Mr.  Addo.
The Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Stella A. Amoa and Mr. Addo’s son, Nii Kpakpo Addo, a level three hundred student of the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), were present to witness the donation.
