The President of the National Computing and Information Agency of Korea, Mr. Kim Kyung-Sup recently called on the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Development when he visited the University to inaugurate the newly established Korea-Ghana Information Access Centre at the Balme Library.  He was accompanied by some officials from Korea.

Receiving the delegation, Prof. John O Gyapong who welcomed them to the University, said the University acknowledged the support from the National Computing and Information Agency of Korea in equipping the Centre with modern ICT equipment in addition to furnishing the meeting rooms.  He said the Centre had brought “Korea” close to the door step of the University and expressed the hope that the facility would serve not only members of the community but institutions outside of the University, especially second cycle institutions in the community.  Prof. Gyapong urged users not to consider the facility as another computer laboratory to browse the internet, but rather to see it as an invaluable resource to carry out on-line research.  He expressed appreciation to the Government and people of Korea for supporting the University, and Ghana.

The Honourable Deputy Minister of Education, Hon. Ernest Attuquaye Armah who was present at this meeting in brief remarks acknowledged the support from the Korean Government through the National Council of Computing and Information Agency of Korea, and said the government was eager to enhance the ICT landscape in the country.  He mentioned that plans were already in place to establish business centres in all post offices and equip these centres with computers as a way of improving upon access nationwide.  He called for support from institutions such as the NCIA to consider assisting the government to realize this laudable goal.
