Fourth West African Regional Workshop:
Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens
July 16-27, 2012, Department of Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular
Biology, University of Ghana, Accra
The Department of Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology at the University of Ghana is partnering with the American Society for Cell Biology with sponsorship from the Carnegie Corporation of New York to present:
A Short Course in Modern Cell Biology with a Focus on Protozoan and Bacterial Pathogens
An international faculty will teach a two-week course designed to help young African scientists learn cell biology, methods for studying cells, and effective ways to teach about them. The course is designed for people who already have at least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject, and preferably an MSc. It will cover cells in general and both protozoan and bacterial pathogens, with an emphasis on malaria and tuberculosis. Specific areas of training will include:
· Developing Research Proposals
· Using Yeast as a Model Organism
· Macromolecular Complexes as Machines
· Cell Biology and Disease
· Accessing and Reading Scientific Papers
· Scientific Communication Skills
