University of Ghana admits these categories of International students:
- Degree seeking Bachelor and Graduate Students
- Visiting Students
- Occasional Students
- Research Affiliate
DEGREE SEEKING BACHELOR AND GRADUATE STUDENTS
These are students who enroll in a full time programme and are awarded University of Ghana degrees on successful completion of their studies.
- English Proficiency Students
The one-year diploma in English proficiency (without specific entry requirements) is for candidates who do not have the requisite English language background. This program is organized by the Language Center. Application, registration and other academic arrangements are organized through the Language Center and the Admissions Office.
VISITING STUDENT
These categories of students enroll in the University of Ghana for a semester or two. After completion of their studies, the grades are transferred to the home universities.

OCCASIONAL STUDENTS
This refers to students who audit courses in the University of Ghana. That is, the students attend classes for the various courses they choose but do not take examinations or any form of assessment.
RESEARCH AFFILIATES
They are students or researchers attached to an academic unit to carry out their research in Ghana.
