PROFILE:
I have been a Lecturer in the Department of English, University of Ghana, since 1993. Currently, I am an Associate Professor. I hold a B.A. in English and Linguistics, M.Phil in Language Arts, and PhD. in English Language from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.Most of my published works have dealt with the grammar of English as a Second Language in (first) Nigeria and (now) in Ghana. The works have principally analysed its grammatical features associated with these regional varieties of English. Apart from a number of formal articles, I have written two books on English Grammar
RESEARCH INTERESTS
My area of research interest is Descriptive Linguistics. In this broad area, I have a particular focus on studies on English Grammar and Usage in Ghana. In my research work, I have relied mostly on the theories of Functional Grammar.
Currently, my interest is focused on functional analysis of grammatical structure in specific communication settings:
- Language of editorials
- Religious discourse
- Coreferential pronominal use in Ghanaian English
- Formal/informal language use in the media
- Grammatical features of Ghanaian Pidgin
