| University of Ghana’s Distance Education (DE) Programme University of Ghana decided in July 2007 to offer some of its undergraduate courses in the Faculties of Arts, Social Studies and the Business School by distance. The Institute has been given the responsibility to manage the implementation of the programme. With the support of the University’s DistanceEducation Implementation Committee and Heads of the Departments in the three faculties the programme was launched in November 2007. The first batch of over 800 students was admitted to commence courses in Sociology, Philosophy, Linguistics, Geography and Resource Development and Economics in January 2008. The programme is in its third year and has since expanded tremendously. Currently, there are 4,577 students on the programme reading various courses in ten subjects.
