Professor Yaw Oheneba-Sakyi , Director, ICDE
Professor Yaw Oheneba-Sakyi is the Director of the Institute of Continuing and Distance Education, University of Ghana, Legon, a position he assumed in August, 2008. Prior to that, he was a Professor at California State University, Fresno where he served as Chair of the Africana and American Indian Studies Programme. In 2007, he was selected as a Fulbright New Century Scholar (NCS), one of 36 top scholars and practitioners from 25 countries to conduct research that would contribute new knowledge to the interdisciplinary discussion, cross-cultural, and transnational understanding of access and equity in higher education throughout the world.

Dr. S.K. Badu-Nyarko, Deputy Director, (ICDE)
Dr S.K. Badu-Nyarko is a Senior Lecturer with seventeen years (17) teaching experience at the Tertiary level. He holds BA (Hons) in Political Science, M. Phil and PhD in Adult Education from University of Ghana and M.Ed. curriculum Studies) from Lakehead University, Ontario, Canada.
Until his appointment as Deputy Director, He was the Ag. Co-ordinator of the University of Ghana Distance Education Programme. His research interests are Distance Education, Environmental and Population Education and Human Resource Development. He has also consulted with International Institutions in Adult Education Research. He is a part-time lecturer in Research Methodology and Quantitative Analysis in Wisconsin International University College Ghana, and Department of Social Work, University of Ghana, Legon.
He was once the Editor-in-chief of the Journal of Literacy and Adult Education; a reviewer of KNUST Journal of Science and Technology and a member of the International Reading Association.

Dr. Daniel Oduro-Mensah, Head of Teaching & Research Unit, ICDE
Dr. Daniel Oduro-Mensah is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Legon. He holds BEd (Science Education) First Class in Biology and Geography, MEd (Curriculum Studies/Science Education), and PhD in Education of the University of Ibadan. He holds several awards, belongs to many professional bodies and has 43 publications to his credit. He lectures at the Institute of Continuing and Distance Education and other private universities in Research Methods, Community Education and Development, Curriculum Studies, Programme Planning and Evaluation, Communication, Adult Education & Teaching, and Contemporary Issues in Adult Education. He has also supervised 13 PhD and more than 112 MA/MPhil students theses and dissertations. He has served as internal and external examiner in tertiary institutions for the past 14 years. Dr. Oduro-Mensah has over 22 years experience in community organizing and development work. He has been a consultant to many District assemblies, NGO’s and Government institutions in development work, education and training workshops. His research interests are in the areas of rural and urban poverty, small scale business activities, community development, sustainable development and environmental issues. He has been on the editorial boards of many academic journals, books and modules. He serves on many boards and committees at the University of Ghana and at the national level. Having variously served as Acting Director and Deputy Director of the Institute of adult Education, Dr. Oduro-Mensah is currently the Head of Teaching and Research Department of the Institute of Continuing and Distance Education, University of Ghana.

Mr. Francis Adjei is a Resident Tutor of the ICDE (and Principal at Kumasi Centre, ICDE) he holds M. Phil in Adult Education (UG) and teaches the following courses:

Mr. I.W. Parry, Lecturer (Sekondi-Takoradi Centre)
Mr. I.W Parry Resident Tutor, Sekondi-Takoradi Centre. Mr. I.W. Parry is a Lecturer with thirteen years teaching experience in the Institute of Continuing and Distance Education. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and a Master of Philosophy Degree in Adult Education obtained from the University of Ghana, Legon. Over the years, he has taught courses in Adult Psychology and Andragogy and Guidance and Counseling both at the Diploma and Post Graduate Levels. He also teaches Module 1 (Learning Processes) on the Commonwealth Youth Diploma Programme.
He was a Part-time Lecturer in the School of Performing Arts from 1998 – 2003. He is the Head of the University of Ghana Distance Education Programme at the Sekondi-Takoradi Centre. He has consulted for a number of District Assemblies in the Central and Western Regions of Ghana as well as World Vision, Ghana. He is currently a member of the Board of Governors, Akropong College of Education. He is currently researching into the Learning Needs of the Elderly in Ghana.

Dr. M. A. Tagoe, Senior Lecturer, (Legon)
Michael Tagoe graduated from University of Ghana with a BA Honours in Sociology in 1985. He did his National Service with the Institute of Adult Education from 1985 to 1987, and was appointed a Senior Organiser at the Accra Worker’s College. In 1990, he pursued a Master of Education (M.Ed.) programme in Adult Education at the University of Manchester and later, a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) programme at the Institute of Adult Education.
In 1995, he enrolled on a PhD programme at University of Reading in Rural Development and Extension and completed in 2000. He is a Senior Resident Tutor at the Institute of Continuing and Distance Education (ICDE), University of Ghana, Legon. He teaches Research Methods at the Diploma and Master’s levels and also Programme Planning and Evaluation at the Master’s level.
He is a Part-time lecturer at the Department of Information Studies where he teaches Research methods at the Undergraduate level. Michael Tagoe has consulted for Action Aid Ghana, the International Organization for Migration, National Commission for Civic Education and the Ghana Information Network for Knowledge Sharing (GINKS) Project. He has organized several Adult Education programs at the Accra Workers’ College where he was the Resident Tutor in charge of formal and non-formal Adult Education programmes.
He is the Chairman of the Board of Directors for PAMOJA (Network of Reflect Practitioners in Ghana). He is a member of a team of Lecturers who developed the HIV Counselling and Care-giving and HIV Stigma Reduction through Education Modules.

Mr. Samuel Nsowah, Senior Lecturer (Koforidua Centre)
Mr. Samuel Nsowah holds an M Phil. Degree in Adult Education from University of Ghana and a B Ed. Honors Degree with Dip. in Economics (Social Science) from University of Cape Coast. He also holds a professional certificate in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from two (2) years academic and clinical training (Residency) at the Harris Methodist Health System (HMHS) within the Texas Health Resources, Fort Worth; and Harris Country Hospital District in Houston, Texas.
Mr. Nsowah is currently a lecturer with the Institute of Continuing and Distance Education (ICDE) and Head of the Institute’s centre at Koforidua.
He is also the Coordinator of the University of Ghana’s Distance Education Programme at the Koforidua Centre. He has consulted for a number of organizations, projects and programmes including the Ghana Government – UNDP funded National Poverty Reduction Programme, Technoserve ITSPM Project, National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI), Water-Aid, the Business Sector Advocacy Challenge (BUSAC) Fund and etc. His extension and research activities/interest have focused on training and capacity building, small enterprise development, advocacy, and job satisfaction and motivation.

Prof. Olivia Adwoa Tiwaah Frimpong Kwapong, Coordinator, Distance Education Unit
Oliva A. T. Frimpong Kwapong holds a PhD from the University of Ghana. She has studied as a special Doctoral Candidate at Harvard University. She is currently a lecturer at the Institute of Continuing and Education, University of Ghana. Prof. Kwapong has worked for both governmental and non-governmental organizations for empowerment of women. Her studies have focused in areas of gender and development, information and communication technologies, and open and distance learning.

Ms. C.O. Benneh, Lecturer (Legon)
Ms Clara Ohenewa Benneh graduated from the University of Cape Coast with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies. She also holds a Master of Philosophy degree in Adult Education from the University of Ghana. Ms Benneh is currently a lecturer with the Institute of Continuing and Distance Education and lectures in Adult Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Gender and Development. Her research interests are in Gender Issues, Poverty and Poverty Reduction.

Mr. Sakara Abudu, Lecturer, (Tamale & Bolgatanga Centres)
Graduated from the University of Cape Coast with a B.A. (Hons.)Degree in English and Religious Studies as well as a Diploma in Education in 1986. Also obtained a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) Degree in Adult Education from the University of Ghana, Legon in 2003. Joined the Institute of Adult Education of the University of Ghana in 1996 as a Senior Organiser and currently the Resident Tutor of the Institute and Principal of the Wa Workers’College. Lectures in Community Education and Development at the diploma level and areas of interest are Population and Environmental issues.
Dr. Isaac Kofi Biney, Lecturer, (Legon)
Dr. Isaac Kofi Biney was educated at Tarkwa Secondary School at Tarkwa, St. John’s School in Sekondi and University of Cape Coast where he obtained B.Ed (Hons) Foundations. He also holds a Certificate in Social Mobilisation for Health and Development at the School for Public Health, an M.Phil and Ph.D Degrees in Adult Education from University of Ghana, Legon.
Currently, Dr. Biney is a lecturer at the Institute of Continuing and Distance Education (ICDE), University of Ghana, a Tutor in levels 100 and 200 Economics at the University of Ghana Distance Education Programme, and a Facilitator of the Youth Worker’s Programme (Reducing HIV & AIDS Stigma and Discrimination through Education). He is also a lecturer in the Commonwealth Youth Development (CYP), a Diploma course organised and coordinated by Institute of Continuing and Distance Education (ICDE), University of Ghana, Legon, teaching Module 11: ‘Promoting Enterprise and Economic Development’. He is a coordinator of MA Adult Education Sandwich Students Seminar Papers. Dr. Biney is also the Assistant Head of Conferences, Schools and Special Programmes (CSSP) Unit at the Institute of Continuing and Distance Education (ICDE), University of Ghana, Legon.
His research areas are Community Education and Development, Management of Organisations, Small-scale Enterprise Promotion, Theories of Adult Learning, Communication in Adult Education, Population and Environment Education. Dr. Biney has currently four (4) published papers and one international research report to his credit.

Dr. Joseph Cobbinah, (Legon)
Dr Joseph E. Cobbinah obtained his PhD and Postgraduate Diploma in Research Methods from the University of Bradford, UK, MPhil in Educational Leadership and School improvement, Fitzwilliam College University of Cambridge, MSc Development Management from the Open University, UK and B.Ed (Hons) in Educational Management from the University of Nottingham, UK. He also holds a Certificate in E-Learning from the University of Oxford.
His areas of specialization include Rural Development, Community Development and Participation, Empowerment, Educational Leadership and School Improvement. Dr. Cobbinah lectures are basically on Working with People in their Communities, Management of Adult Education Organizations, Programme Development in Adult Education, Psychology and Andragogy at the Institute of Continuing and Distance Education (ICDE).

Dr. (Mrs.) Ellen Mabel Osei-Tutu, (Legon)
Dr. (Mrs) Ellen Mabel Osei-Tutu holds a PhD, MPhil, MA in Population Studies and B.A. Sociology from the University of Ghana. Prior to joining the University of Ghana, she worked with the National Population Council as a Regional Population Officer. She currently teaches and supervises Postgraduate Students in Population Environment and Adult Education at the Institute of Continuing and Distance Education. She is also undertaking a study into factors that affect the use of contraceptives among couples in Ghana. She is also undertaking a study into dimensions of couple’s decision making at home and unintended Pregnancies.
Dr. John Kwame Boateng, (Legon)
Dr. John Kwame Boateng graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a PhD in Demography/Extension Education and MS in Horticulture. He also holds MSc and BSc in Agriculture from the University of Ghana. He initially taught at the University of the Wisconsin, before moving to University of Ghana as a lecturer in February, 2013.
