The Centre, formerly ICD-UGL, has been running these courses yearly since 2008 and these are the 8th Courses, respectively. The Courses are designed to train food safety trainers and educate food and health professionals to ensure that foods supplied for consumption are safe; and consequently to create Food Safety Ambassadors in the sub Saharan Africa region. From the inception, several international participants from neighbouring countries have attended. We have also had resource persons from ICD (Industry Council for Development) and ILSI to support the wide local resource-base in the course delivery.

Previous participants have been health professionals, staff of food industry, nutritionists, professionals in the catering and hospitality industry, veterinary staff, staff of standards and regulatory agencies, engineers, police and customs officials, lawyers, accountants, entrepreneurs, purchasing officers, lecturers, teachers and students, etc., signifying the fact that ensuring food safety is a shared responsibility.
