Vacancy for Senior Level Administrative Positions Deans/Director/Principal

The University of Ghana, hereby, invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the senior level administrative positions listed below, to take effect from 1st August, 2017.

POSITION 1:       Dean, School of Nursing  
REPORTING TO:    Provost, College of Health Sciences

The School of Nursing comprises the following Departments:
Department of Adult Health
Department of Community Health Nursing
Department of Maternal & Child Health
Department of Mental Health
Department of Education, Research & Administration

POSITION 2:      Dean, School of Pharmacy
REPORTING TO:    Provost, College of Health Sciences

The School of Pharmacy has the following Departments:
Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry
Department of Pharmacognosy and Herbal Medicine
Department of Pharmaceutics and Microbiology
Department of Pharmacy Practice and Clinical Pharmacy.
Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology

POSITION 3:    Director, Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR)
REPORTING TO:    Provost, College of Health Sciences

The mandates of the Institute are to (1) conduct research into the major communicable and non-communicable diseases of the tropics, (2) provide training opportunities in medical research for undergraduates and postgraduate students in tertiary institutions and (3) provide high end laboratory diagnostic and monitoring services in support of public health programmes.
The NMIMR has the following Departments:

Department of Epidemiology

POSITION 4:        Dean, School of Law

The School of Law is not departmentalized

POSITION 5:        Dean, School of Arts
REPORTING TO:        Provost, College of Humanities

The School of Arts has the following Departments:

POSITION 6:        Dean, School of Performing Arts
REPORTING TO:         Provost, College of Humanities

The School of Performing Arts has the following Departments:

POSITION 7:        Principal, Accra City Campus
REPORTING TO:         Provost, College of Humanities

The City Campus is a non-residential, fee-paying facility where University of Ghana programmes are run with teaching faculty from the main campus.
 

POSITION 8:        Dean, School of Agriculture
REPORTING TO:   Provost, College of Basic and Applied Sciences

The School of Agriculture is made up of the following Departments and Centres:
Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness

Forest and Horticultural Crop Research Centre (FOHCREC)

POSITION 9:        Dean, School of Veterinary Medicine
REPORTING TO:   Provost, College of Basic and Applied Sciences

The School of Veterinary Medicine is not departmentalized

POSITION 10:        Dean, School of Physical and Mathematical Science
REPORTING TO:    Provost, College of Basic and Applied Sciences

The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences is made up of the following departments:

Department of Chemistry
Department of Computer Science
Department of Earth Science
Department of Mathematics
Department of Physics
Department of Statistics

QUALIFICATIONS
FOR THE POSITIONS OF DEAN/DIRECTOR/PRINCIPAL

The successful applicant must:

(a)    be of professorial status from an academic/research institution or a person from industry eligible for that position.

(b)    be capable of providing academic leadership especially in the area of teaching, research and extension in the relevant disciplines.

(c)    provide evidence of managerial and administrative leadership and capacity to promote a collegial working environment in the School/Institute/Campus.

(d)    demonstrate capacity to attract funding for research and development.

(e)    have the vision and the drive to oversee the growth and development of the School/Institute/Campus.

(f)    Normally, be able to serve a minimum of one term in office.

DUTIES
A Dean/Director/Principal is responsible for providing leadership to the School/Institute/Campus and for maintaining and promoting the efficiency and good order in accordance with the policies and procedures prescribed by the University Act and Statutes, or as may be determined by the Council, the Academic Board and the School/Institute/Campus Management Committee.

The Dean/Director/Principal is to ensure that the approved programmes and functions of the School/Institute/Campus are duly carried out by members of the School/Institute/Campus.

The Dean/Director/Principal is also responsible for the general administration of the School/Institute/Campus in respect of human, financial and material resources within the general framework of University policy.

 

TENURE

A Dean/Director/Principal shall hold office for three years on terms and conditions recommended by the Appointments Board and is eligible for re-appointment for a further term of up to three years.

Method of Application

The application pack should contain the following:

i.           Completed application form for Senior Level Administrative Positions (UAB Form 1C) to be downloaded from the University’s website at www.ug.edu.gh/hrodd.

ii.         An up to date Curriculum Vitae and relevant supporting documents.

iii.       A statement of about 2,500 words (not more than five pages) indicating how one intends to use the period in office to address relevant issues that will ensure that the University achieves its mission and vision.
