1. BIOMEDICAL ENGINEER

The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research hereby invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Biomedical Engineer.

Job Description

The job role requires operational support for the achievement of the objectives of the Institute.

We are looking for an innovative biomedical engineer with the skills to develop pioneering biomedical technology to support the work of the Institute. You will work closely with professionals such as life scientists, chemists, and medical scientists to research the engineering aspects of biological systems. Your expertise in both engineering and biology will enable you to develop technological solutions to complex medical problems.

You must be able to develop advanced healthcare technology and be able to advise others on how to use the technology effectively as well as support the mechanical and electrical engineers to service and maintain the essential equipment that are used routinely at the Institute.

Additionally, you should have a firm understanding of math and science, a deep social, economic, and cultural awareness, and an enthusiastic fondness for teamwork. Ideal candidates must display an ability to comprehend complex systems, identify the sources of any problems that arise, and decide on which actions to take to fix them.

Responsibilities:

· Installing and calibrating biomedical machines, equipment, and related software.

· Designing and creating biomedical technology such as artificial internal organs and body parts, machines, equipment, and software that can be used for diagnosing and treating medical problems.

· Evaluating the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of biomedical machines, equipment, and software.

· Maintaining and repairing biomedical machines and equipment, when needed.

· Providing technical support, when needed.

· Keeping up-to-date service histories on all biomedical machines and equipment.

· Training clinicians, scientists, and other personnel on how to use biomedical machines and equipment, safely and effectively.

· Researching new materials, technologies, and engineering aspects of biological processes and systems.

· Writing reports and documents detailing protocols, policies, standards of use, maintenance, and repairs of biomedical equipment, machines, and software.

· Disseminating knowledge about the biomedical engineering field through writing, teaching, or consulting.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

· Candidate must possess a relevant Bachelor’s & Master’s degree in biomedical engineering, biomedical science, or a related field.

· Professional Licensed Engineer (P.E.) issued by the appropriate authorities.

· Proven experience working within the field of biomedical engineering in related organizations.

· Have a minimum of two years work experience

· Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Meticulous attention to detail.

· Great eye for design and the technical ability to transform designs into products.

· Exceptional team-working and communication skills.

· Ability to build effective team by training team members to deliver appropriately and on time.

· Able to work under pressure and flexible working hours.

 

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

The appointments shall normally be for six years including a probationary period. The appointment shall be reviewed before the end of the sixth year and may be renewed.

2. DATA MANAGER

The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research hereby invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Data Manager.

The job role requires operational support for management of the Institute’s research data repository and to support the achievement of the objectives of the Institute.

 

Responsibilities:

· Manage the organization’s research data repository

· Develop data-oriented systems to meet the organizations research needs

· Assist research scientists in study design and implementation

· Develop data validation systems for data stored in the central repository

· Develop systems to facilitate querying and export of data into other formats

· Ensure that data management and data sharing policies and procedures are adhered to

· Facilitate periodic review of data management and sharing policies and procedures

· Make periodic reports to researchers and management on the status of the central data repository

· Liaise with the IT unit to ensure data security

· Support Research Scientists in biostatistical data analysis

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

· Candidate must possess a relevant Bachelor’s & Master’s degree in a relevant field (Bio-statistics, Health Informatics, Computer Science, Statistics)

· Should have a minimum of two years experience in managing research data systems

· Must be knowledgeable in the use of research data systems such as REDCap and EPIINFO

· Must have good IT skills especially knowledge of other database systems such as MySQL, SQL Server, and Microsoft Access

· Must be adept in the use of the Microsoft office 365 Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, MS forms, etc.)

· Should possess good communication and inter-personal skills

· Should possess good writing skills

3. ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research hereby invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Electrical Engineer.

Job Description

The job role requires operational support for the achievement of the objectives of the Institute.

As an Electrical engineer, you should be able to design, develop, and test electrical devices and equipment, including communications systems, power generators, motors and navigation systems, and electrical systems for automobiles etc. You will also oversee the manufacture of these devices, systems, and equipment installations, servicing, and maintenance.

 

Successful candidate will lead the design and implementation of complex institutional electrical systems. To do well in this role, you should be a licensed professional engineer and have extensive experience as an electrical engineer in a related organization.

Responsibilities:

· Designing, maintaining, implementing, or improving electrical instruments, facilities, components, equipment products, or systems for industrial, commercial, or domestic purposes.

· Performing a wide range of engineering tasks by operating computer-assisted design or engineering software and equipment.

· Conferring with customers, engineers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering products or projects.

· Ensuring that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements by preparing electrical systems specifications, technical drawings, or topographical maps.

· Establishing construction, manufacturing, or installation standards or specifications by performing a wide range of detailed calculations.

· Ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, or customer requirements by directing or coordinating installation, manufacturing, construction, maintenance, documentation, support, or testing activities.

· Writing reports and compiling data regarding existing and potential electrical engineering projects and studies.

· Preparing specifications for purchases of electrical equipment and materials.

· Supervising or training project team members.

· Estimating material, labour, or construction costs for budget preparation.

· Maintaining electrical equipment.

· Working with a variety of technicians.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

· Candidate must possess a relevant Bachelor’s & Master's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited Institution.

· Licensed as a professional electrical engineer.

· Have a minimum of two years work experience

· Experience in using or a desire to learn the required software being used at the Institute.

· Knowledge of applicable codes related to electronic engineering.

· Proficient in appropriate design and calculation software.

· Deep electrical system, power generation, blueprints and maintenance and repair knowledge

· Experience in renewable energy field, especially solar power generation

4. MECHANICAL ENGINEER

The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research hereby invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Mechanical Engineer.

Job Description

The job role requires operational support for the achievement of the objectives of the Institute.

As a mechanical engineer, you can work across all stages of product development, from research and design to installation and commissioning. Your role involves the design, development and operation of machines and systems.

Responsibilities:

· Plan, conceptualize, and create mechanical designs for new products

· Develop testing processes, and perform testing and validation of mechanical components of new designs

· Generate working prototypes for beta testing and customer demonstration

· Perform engineering calculations to support design work

· Create and review technical drawings, plans, and specifications using computer software

· Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams, and work with vendors and contractors

· Perform detailed documentation to track project development and design process

· Ensure project timeline is met and project stays within budget

· Improve production processes, and planning and supervising the installation of machinery and parts in line with design plans and timescales

· Develop and test prototypes of devices they design

· Design or redesign mechanical and thermal devices using analysis and computer-aided design to create technical plans

· Analyse the test results and change the design as needed to meet specification

· Applying mathematical and materials science principles to design and implement cost-effective equipment modifications to help improve safety and reliability

· Oversee the manufacturing process for any product developed

· Analyse, discuss and solve complex problems with manufacturing departments, sub-contractors, suppliers, and customers

· Perform a full lifecycle product development (design, develop, test prototypes, manufacture and implement)

· Liaising with suppliers

· Surveying systems and machines.

· Producing technical documents.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

· Candidate must possess a relevant Bachelor’s & Master's degree in mechanical engineering or in a related field

· Licensed to practice as a mechanical Engineer in Ghana

· Have a minimum of two years experience working in engineering, and project management role

· Firm grasp of engineering concepts, and experience designing mechanical systems and products

· Solid understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science etc.

· Excellent math skills: ability to apply advanced mathematical principles and statistics to solve problems

· Experience using CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar

· Exceptional technical and problem-solving skills and reasoning ability

· Hands-on experience with computer-aided engineering (CAM) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAE)

· Excellent prioritization and project development skills

· Strong creativity and analytical skills

· Ability to communicate technical knowledge effectively and clearly

· Must be self-motivated and a great team worker
