Message From the Dean

MESSAGE FROM

THE DEAN OF STUDENT AFFAIRS

I would like to congratulate all of you on your admission into the nation’s Premier University. I believe you have worked hard and made some sacrifices to get here and that alone is in itself a laudable achievement. Getting here is just the beginning of a new chapter that would set you up to conquer the world that lies outside of this university.

The Office of the Dean of Students Affairs provides counseling and information services for students, administers the non-academic student disciplinary system and student grievance procedure, and assists in non-academic program development. To efficiently discharge this duty, the Dean works with heads of Halls, the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) and other student bodies, the Sports Directorate, and the Public Affairs Directorate.

In every human institution, there are rules and regulations that govern the action and inactions of its members and the same applies to the University. These rules and regulations exist and are there to ensure you enjoy and make the most of your time here at the University of Ghana, and to ensure the smooth operation of the university as a whole. As junior members of the University, you are expected to be compliant. Ignorance is not an excuse for the breach of any rules and regulations that exist within the university. I enjoin all of you to familiarize yourselves with the University of Ghana Regulations for Junior Members which can be found here on the University's website.

The University exists as a citadel of knowledge, therefore, it is important to take your academic work very seriously as  Junior Members. By being diligent academically, you increase your chances for better career opportunities and open up new doors for yourselves. Being disciplined academically might be tough and come with its challenges but staying the course and paying the price for academic excellence would yield a lot of rewards and benefits to you as an individual, your family, and the nation at large.

Course advisers have been assigned to your various Departments to assist you with any academic challenges you might face. The Careers and Counseling Center is also there to help you overcome whatever challenges you might have as far as academics are concerned.

You are expected to attend lectures and participate in all class activities such as group presentations and research work. All of these have been designed to help you better understand the course and enhance your learning experience. You can also form study groups with your colleagues to share knowledge and improve your understanding of what is being taught in class at any point in time.

There are a number of student groups and associations on campus —from extracurricular interests to religious ones. These groups and associations are avenues for Junior Members to, among other things, improve their competency in co-curricular activities and develop themselves holistically. There is the Debate Society, Enactus, the Child Survival Club, the Rotaract Club, Pax Romana, and the University Christian Fellowship, to name a few. As Junior Members, you are highly encouraged to identify clubs and societies that are in line with your interests and participate in their activities to enhance your University experience.

I want to congratulate you once again on your admission to the University of Ghana. My office is always open to offer any assistance should you need it.

 Prof. Rosina  I.  Kyerematen

Dean of Student Affairs

University of Ghana, Legon .
