UG Congregation - Graduation Eligibility

ELIGIBILITY FOR GRADUATION: 

It is the graduand's obligation to ensure that all his/her obligations to the University are fulfilled to be enabled to graduate. This has to be done several weeks before the start of registration (see notice) for the Congregation Ceremony to be approved for graduation and enabled to register for the Ceremony. These are the requirements:

9.29 ELIGIBILITY FOR THE BACHELOR'S DEGREE

  1. A Bachelor's degree appropriately designated shall be awarded to a candidate who has been properly admitted to the University, has followed the approved courses1 of study over the prescribed period and has satisfied the following conditions:  

*For the avoidance of doubt, a student may be denied graduation if he/she does not follow subjects assigned to him/her at either Level 100 or 200

i. University Requirements:

a. evidence of regular enrolment in the degree programme;

b. discharge of all obligations owed to the University;

c. a pass in all University Required Courses;

d. satisfactory performance in the appropriate University examinations.

ii. School/Departmental Requirements: satisfactory discharge of such requirements as may be prescribed for the degree.

 

9.30 REQUIREMENTS FOR BACHELOR’S GRADUATION

  1. A student shall be deemed to have satisfied the requirements for graduation if:

i. he/she has fulfilled all General University and School requirements;

ii. he/she has accumulated the minimum number of credits required by the School, including core and prescribed electives…”

 

9.32 CONFERMENT OF AWARD OF DEGREE

A list of candidates who are deemed eligible as in Sections 9.30, 9.31 and 9.32 shall be laid before the Academic Board for approval. No award shall be conferred unless the Academic Board is satisfied that the candidate has met all the conditions for the award of a degree.

 

9.33 PRESENTATION OF AWARD

Following conferment of an award of a degree as in Section 9.32, the candidate shall be entitled to be awarded the appropriate Bachelor's degree under the seal of the University at a Congregation of the University assembled for that purpose. The degree shall indicate the principal subject or subjects offered and the class awarded.  ”

 

 

2. FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

Students with outstanding bills should contact the Student Accounts Office (Jones-Quartey Building, Ground Floor) promptly to settle them. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that obligations to the University are met.

 

3. OUTSTANDING DISCIPLINARY/EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE ISSUES

In this regard, students may contact the Office of the Director of Academic Affairs for resolution.

 

4. SUPPORT:

College Academic Officer will assist in checking your academic status and eligibility for graduation, particularly on issues with course grades and other records.   Academic Offices may be found as follows:

  • College of Basic and Applied Sciences: First floor, CBAS Administration, in the School of Agriculture Building, Legon Campus
  • College of Education: Located within the premises of the School of Continuing and Distance Education, on the Osu Road, just off the J.B. Danquah Avenue. The College Academic Office may be contacted through the following: coeacademic@ug.edu.gh or telephone 0362194377, 0503899803 or 0264410136.
  • College of Health Sciences: CHS Administration Building, next to Dental School, Korle-Bu Campus
  • College of Humanities: First Floor, UGBS Building. opposite Department of Food and Nutrition, Legon Campus.

Graduation list will be posted online from the start of Registration (Check the date in notice here)

 

5. UG RIGHT TO CANCEL, WITHDRAW, WITHHOLD

Graduating students are reminded of section 7.16b of the University of Ghana Regulations for Junior Members which states:

  1. " For the avoidance of doubt, notwithstanding previous conferment or confirmation of an award of a degree, diploma, certificate, standing, credits or any other qualification how-so-ever described, the University shall have the power to cancel or withhold or withdraw any award at any time it becomes known that:

i.   a candidate had gained admission into the University with false qualifications; or

ii.  a candidate had impersonated someone else, or

iii. a candidate had been guilty of an examination malpractice for which a grade Z would have been awarded; or

iv. a candidate had engaged in any other conduct which in the opinion of the University would have resulted in the cancellation or withdrawal of the award. "

    *Please note that students are NOT required to register and attend the congregation ceremony to be eligible for graduation.
