COMS 706: Communication and Public Policy

Understanding the centrality of communication in policy formulation and implementation within the civil and public services has become a 21st Century challenge. This course explores the connecting sharing information among policy makers, journalists, bloggers and partners all over the world the promotion of proactive relations and improved access to information are key elements of the course. Communication as a vehicle for understanding the non-partisan civil service in democratic governance is another element. Public access to government programmes and services as a requirement in democratic governance is examined. Further probed is how the responsibility of government performs to provide the public with timely, accurate, clear, objective and complete explanation of information about policies, programmes, service and initiatives.
