An Interior View of the New Building

 

The Centre for Ageing Studies has held a ceremony to dedicate its new building.

Present at the ceremony was the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, Pro-Vice Chancellor (ASA), Prof. Kwame Offei, Pro-Vice Chancellor (RID) Prof. Francis Dodoo, Provosts of the College of Education, College of Health Sciences, College of Humanities and other University officials.

After an opening prayer by Rev. Dr. Abamfo Atiemo, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Religions and Chairman of the Chaplaincy Board, the Provost for the College of Health Sciences, Rev. Professor Patrick F. Ayeh-Kumi urged staff of the Centre to work productively in order to show forth the light of God by being professional and ethical in assisting the numerous clients who will visit the Centre to seek answers to pertinent questions bothering on aging.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, in his remarks, spoke of the importance of the Centre, which he said, will add value to the community in terms of training and research, noting that special care must be given to the aged since everybody at one point or the other will find themselves in that phase of life. He further expressed concern about modern sociocultural architecture which has become more nuclear to the extent that the aged are mostly left to fend for themselves.

Earlier, in his welcome and introductory remarks, the Director of the Centre, Prof. Charles Mate-Kole expressed gratitude to all who worked assiduously to make the setting up of the facility a success. He also commended the volunteers who have so far contributed in diverse ways towards the achievement of the aim of the Centre and gave the assurance that the Centre will grow beyond its current status to touch lives beyond the boundaries of the University.

The Pro-Vice Chancellor (ASA) Prof. Kwame Offei, as well as the Provosts for the Colleges of Humanities and Education, also commended Professor Charles Mate-Kole for his hard work and dedication towards the advancement of the Centre.

 

Inspection of the Offices

 

The Centre for Aging Studies, University of Ghana, set up on 1st August, 2015 is the first of its kind in the country.
