The Academic Quality Assurance Unit (AQAU) of the University of Ghana is to collaborate with the Ghana School of Law (GSL) on academic quality assurance issues. This was disclosed by Prof. Dan Ofori, Director of AQAU at a meeting with a delegation from the Ghana School of Law.

According to Prof. Ofori, discussions on the collaboration effort started in September 2019, after which AQAU was invited to analyse the course and lecturer evaluations of the Ghana School of Law for the third term of the 2018/19 academic year. He said, following the successful execution of the first assignment and upon further discussions, AQAU was again invited to execute the Course and Lecturer Evaluations (CLE) for the entire Ghana School of Law for the 2019/20 academic year, covering its three campuses (Accra Main, Greenhill & Kumasi) and all its programmes: Post Call; Professional Law Course Part I; and Professional Law Course Part II.

Prof. Dan Ofori noted that the concept of quality assurance in general and evaluations in particular, should not necessarily be viewed in a negative light, adding that evaluations simply enable an entity to ascertain how successful they are achieving their objectives thus; evaluations therefore provide opportunities for organisations to improve on their operations. The Director reiterated AQAU’s commitment to providing the Ghana Law School with the full gamut of technical quality assurance assistance to enable them fully execute their mandate.

Mr. Kwasi Prempeh-Eck, Director of Legal Education, Ghana School of Law noted that it was time for the Ghana School of Law to adopt a more professional and contemporary approach to the issues of academic quality assurance in general and course and lecturer evaluation in particular. Mr. Prempeh-Eck was hopeful that following the successful execution of the course and lecturer evaluations, AQAU would also address quality issues in other areas of the Ghana School of Law’s operations.

Present at the meeting were: Mr. Kwasi Prempeh-Eck, Director of Legal Education, Mrs. Juliet Adu-Adjei, Registrar and Ms. Marian Atta-Boahene, Deputy Registrar, Ghana School of Law; Professor Dan Ofori, Director, Ms. Joyce Obasebea Appiah, Senior Research Analyst, Academic Quality Assurance Unit and Mr. Daniel Ameyaw, Assistant Registrar.
