Vision and Objectives

The Department's vision is to become a centre of excellence for the training of change agents and managers, irrespective of their technical background (be it health, agriculture, environment, nutrition, forestry etc.) in effective and efficient extension delivery to rural people.
The Department of Agricultural Extension provides quality teaching, research and extension in human resource and organizational development for agricultural and rural development, and poverty reduction. The focus of the above mandate is driven by current and emerging issues such as food security, land and forest degradation, millennium development goals, poverty reduction, decentralization, gender and development, rural enterprise development, and rural and agricultural finance.
Emerging issues in the delivery and finance of Agricultural Extension worldwide such as cost sharing, privatization, participatory approaches to rural development, strengthening farmer-based organizations, and convergence of scientific have also been instrumental in dictating the research focus of the department.
